Most campaign ads are painful to watch. However, this Wisconsin governor might capture your attention.I don't know about you, but I could barely take a shower when I had a 4-month-old baby. Yet, here's Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate, Kelda Helen Roys, creating her first campaign ad, looking fly, talking about a relevant topic, and breastfeeding her infant all at the same time. Some women just make it look easy. A former Democratic state representative from 2009 to 2013, Roys is making a bid to become the next governor of Wisconsin. While this businesswoman and attorney may have a tough road ahead to earn that seat, an authentic moment that occurred during the taping of a campaign ad may have just propelled her ahead of the competition. At one point in the ad entitled “Our Girls,” the camera shoots to Roys' husband, Dan Reed, who is holding a screaming baby. He hands the infant to Roys, who beautifully begins breastfeeding her daughter, all without skipping a beat in her talk. According to TODAY, the authentic moment almost didn't make it into the ad, but when Roys saw the video, she realized just how natural the moment was and how important it was to share it. “I thought we could re-shoot this part or maybe they will use the audio,” she explained. “People are craving authenticity and they want candidates who are real people you know, warts and all,” she said. I just did what I have been trained by her to do, which is to immediately grab her and feed her, and I just sort of didn't think about it.” One of nine Democratic candidates looking to unseat Republican incumbent Scott Walker, 38-year-old Roys is advocating for universal paid family and sick leave and equal pay for women, among other issues. Roys is one of 80 women running for governor in 2018, according to the Chicago Tribune. “What sets me apart from the rest of the field is not that I have a baby,” Roys said, “but I have a track record of getting things done.” Why yes, yes you do, Mama!
